MERIDEN 2015 Cameras were flashing as Brian Harding pulled out a 21-inch rainbow trout from a fishery truck at Lions Club Park next to Red Bridge, Wednesday. The trout was dumped into a large trashcan with water, hauled down to the steep bank, and emptied into the Quinnipiac River.

The hefty fish was the first of nearly 200 to be unloaded into the river, in preparation for the first day of fishing season on Saturday. It was the 18th annual Quinnipiac River Watershed Association fish stocking event.
